A Who Micro-Backtrack
posted by Rob on April 20, 2010 10:19 PM

Referring to the most recent Doctor Who episode, I would like to revise my previous statement that "everything and everyone else was horrible". There's an exception I need to add: the Dalek propaganda poster from the episode. The BBC are offering a nice big PDF of it here.

While I think that nice Matt Smith needs some time to develop his own personality as the Doctor, and I think you're being easy on Amy Pond (for aesthetic reasons?), I entirely agree that this poster is genius.

‘...time to develop his own personality as the Doctor.’
With enough time, you could also get used to sandpaper being rubbed on your skin with liberal sprinklings of salt added. Unless it’s just me getting older, from my twenty minute experience, I got the strong feeling the series is trying to cater for a much younger audience. I can see those fans who’ve grown up with various Doctors will become disappointed. I couldn’t bear to watch and reinforced my lack of Who enthusiasm. Give me the current remake of ‘The Prisoner’ any day, despite all its fans clamouring that it’s not a patch on the original. Hell, I don’t mind. And I don’t mind the American vibe either. I take it for what it is – quite good entertainment. Unlike some other hokum.

I have to admit that the new series hasn't done anything for me either, and agree that it does feel as if they're trying to attract a younger audience - or, dare I say it, a younger female audience? It's still early days, and maybe it will improve, but Matt Smith has a lot to do if he's going to even half fill the gap left by David Tennant.
