My contribution
posted by Rob on February 13, 2010 09:59 AM
It seems that I'm part of a movement. Some of my lifestyle choices seem to align quite closely with these people. Not sure I want all humans to vanish, though. Could we just keep ten million or so, if they promise not to break anything.
(And CSS doesn't damage our ecosystem. I wouldn't be averse to a bit of prettification of their website.)

Fair enough but that's the treatment of a symptom, not the cause. There's also the danger that as the goal is such a long way away people will stop focusing on what they can do now. If humans die out, it won't be because we all decided we wanted to.

Strange. I have to admit they've hit the nail on the head, regarding a solution of intelligence and its careful appliance to their perceived dilemma, with their strap line: "Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense." I agree. Whittle out the dense folk. ;-)
If we’re being serious, instead of trendy, extreme ideology, individuals can choose to do good right now in making a healthier, safer, resourceful environment for a more imminent future. Earth will adapt with or without conscious effort. Unless we accept cause and effect, we won’t welcome results like climate change but it serves a purpose as Earth stirs, shakes free its parasites that fail to understand and work towards coexistence.
This is just something to give a sense of purpose to those without. Mind you, we could all choose to become extinct, only to evolve back again. Millennia from now I could be back typing this with a hint of déjà vu. :-D

Well, I think this is a good idea; there are just too many humans on this planet. This is a bold statement, I know, but it is clear that resources are running out and with the climate changing we’re facing major problems. We can't keep breeding as we are and expect to exist as we do now.
I'm all for people doing their bit, reducing the need for energy and the amount of waste produced, as well as the efforts made in recycling. However, I don't think we've started early enough.
The environment *is* going to change, is already changing in fact, no doubt about that. I'm not that old, but even I've seen change the environment and not all that great either. What we do now may reduce the extremes of what's to come, but it's not going to stop the change. Why bring more individuals into a world that just can't cope?
And yes Rob, they could do with improving the look of their website!

I think there is plenty of space for everyone, just not in my town. All the "other people" should move to the desert or mountains.
