'Yes, there's no "new book smell", no folding the pages over, and if you drop it in the bath you've ruined it - but on the other hand, the whole "electronic ink" malarkey actually works...'

See what Charlie Brooker has to say about e-books in the Grauniad today.

Sorry, I had to laugh at the whole music analogy thing. Try saying vinyl is dead to those who manufacture turntables that cost thousands. I’m not a fan of vinyl but the sonic capabilities of 320 kbps streaming MP3’s doesn’t compare to lossless CD reproduction. It comes close but in complex mixes extremes of frequencies can be chopped in the compression process. Now I sound like a geek and this is a blog about books. E-book readers are nice toys. I still think any would get seriously damaged if dropped in the bath, just the same as a traditional book, which I doubt will vanish anytime soon. Whatever floats your boat.

Do you know authors which still enjoy the sound of typewriter making an impact on the poor, white paper? It is the same with e-readers. In few years it won't be a novelty and we should adopt it as a practical, new thing which help us live better life. Smells and sounds of the past are nice to remember but we cannot live in the past.
