Mousicle (hopefully not)
posted by Rob on January 4, 2010 08:34 AM
Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year, everyone.
I feel a bit bad. It's maybe -4C outside (see pic) and I've just put my latest uninvited mouse house-guest out there. Keep reading if you want to see a picture of the poor cute chilly critter. I'm hoping it finds a nice straw nest or something to live in very soon.
Is that a reproachful look in its eye?

I'd say that's a very reproachful look. Clearly that mouse has no idea how lucky s/he is. We seem to have an infestation of Ladybugs this year, better than mice I guess.

very reproachful. You've got a heart of stone!

But it was eating its stolen corn-chips so loudly behind my bookshelves that I couldn't listen to the TV properly. Plus, Jenn, you'd have probably slapped it between a couple of slices of bread long since.

I have vague childhood memories of my dad clubbing a 'mouse guest' with the business end of a brush, Emma. So, your little critter should be grateful for his merciful eviction :)

Ours live in the garage, foraging among the recycling bins.

When building my log house in Vermont, mice built nests in my log pile. I'd uncover 4 or 5 brand new, helpless babies and carry the nest into the woods, near enough I hoped the mom would find them. They repaid me by invading my house and stashing stolen dog food nuggets inside the TV.

Nah (to the reproach), it's a field mouse. They usually just end up in the house due to being too adventurous - and take advantage once there, of course. The grey house mouse, on the other hand, targets buildings. It's like the door-to-door salesman of rodents. And they _really_ don't like being told to take their wares elsewhere.

Jo, I like the idea that it's just a happy-go-lucky opportunist. Hopefully it can go back to scoffing nuts and berries in a hedge somewhere instead of crunching pilfered Doritos behind my bookshelves.

Oops! Just realised I called you Emma, Rob. Sorry about that! :)
