As one more data-point in the attempt to work out the possible fate of e-book readers and their impact on the world comes the following quote about the Amazon Kindle:
It is "the most 'wished' for, the most gifted, and the number one bestselling product across all product
categories on Amazon.

In fact that quote comes direct from the homeage of Amazon.com.

I'll beleive it might be the most wished for product. I'll even believe it might be the most gifted. But I seriously doubt it is the best selling. Is it really selling more than Stephanie Myers latest?

I imagine this is one of those clver bits of marketing where the combination of sales, wish lists and gifts adds up to the biggest number for the Kindle and allows them to make this convoluted statement.

Misleading or marketing or both? You decide.

The funny thing about the Amazon Sales ratings is that they are calculated per hour. So, in that sense, the kindle *may* have been the best selling product for *one particular hour*... Who knows?

Your point about marketing, Matthew, gets me thinking of the term 'bestseller' - commonly used in relation to marketing books/ authors. Is there a certain number of books that an author has to sell to become recognised, across the industry, as a 'best-selling' author?
