Celebrate those rejections
posted by Emma on April 7, 2009 01:35 PM
I wrote a guest post on why you should be glad to be rejected, some of the time.
I hope that link works. The last two I've done have had to be fixed by Rob. Three would be beyond the pale.

Hi Emma. I submitted a manuscript on August 14, 2008 called The Barbarossa Covenant. I then sent a query in December and again in March. To date I have heard nothing, yea or nay. Should I just assume that no response from Snowbooks is a rejection and move on? Somehow I got the impression from reading your blog that you actually sent rejection notices if a work was declined.
Thanks,
Ian A. O'Connor

Ian -- Is it possible you've been having issues with your e-mail? (Or is your 'junk' filter pretty strict?) I know I've responded to your submission/queries on this title, so I'm not sure why they haven't gotten to you!

Hi Emma. Nope, I've not had issues with my email server, at least not any I've been aware of. My filters are minimal. Don't know what gremlins may be at work, but I'm glad to have heard from you!
Best regards,
Ian

Ian, just to be clear, that comment from Anna is really from Anna, not Emma. Anna deals with most of our submissions.

Hi Emma, I'm still not convinced that I'll be celebrating my rejections :) but I enjoyed reading your guest post
Best,
Maria

Hi Emma,
I too sent a ms to Snow Books back in October of last year called Crystal Ball and haven't heard anything back. I have emailed the contact link at the bottom of the screen several times, but still nothing. I just assumed a non-reply meant no, thanks.

A good, clear guest post. I like it when a publisher - or anybody, for that matter - state their intents upfront. I only wish more writers would pay attention.
But no worries - I, at least, have no intention of submitting to Snowbooks (and probably nowhere else, though one should never say never). I just happen to enjoy this blog!

Thanks for doing a great blog post, Emma.
Cheers,

I always see the bright side of rejection letters by thinking "Well, that story is now free to send to a different market."
After I've wiped away my tears, of course...
Speaking of submissions - I bet you're snowed under (no pun intended) with horror submissions now you have Wayne Simmons?
