Returns
posted by Emma on 09 Jan 2009
Galleycat reports that a publisher in the US is suing Borders for $1m for 'excessive orders' which were then returned. Fascinating. I hate returns as you well know, but suing your customers is never going to end well. Goes to highlight both the strength of feeling and the crippling effect of returns, though.

One million dollars? Did they hold their pinkie to the corner of their mouth when they said it? ;-)
Tad excessive, considering the actual number of orders/returns would be nowhere near that much...
Apologies to any of our American cousins who read this blog, but alas this could only happen in America (unless Carter-Ruck are looking to contact any dispirited small publishers over here...)

I don't know whether you've come across this brilliant post on the subject, Em, by a small (American) indie publisher.
