Can British people ever get their heads round this?

In Minnesota today, where SnowPerson Anna lives, it's minus 31 degrees C. I cannot conceive of that temperature. 'Brrrr' doesn't seem to cover it.

As a former Montrealer, I remember the occasional dip to -10F, or around -20C. But Minnesota would be a lot colder than that. I used to work for a computer manufacturer called Control Data in the 70s; I spent a summer in Minneapolis. The Winter warning "exposed flesh freezes in 60 seconds" sticks in my mind. Keep warm, Anna.

Thankfully it's not that cold here, but Seattle has been hit with more than one fairly hefty snow storm—and the city isn't accustomed to this. It's supposed to stay in the mountains like good snow and ice.

It's given me a forced vacation, which would be nicer if it didn't detract from my bank account!
