Prize season
posted by Emma on November 11, 2008 11:52 AM

Hey hey, it's prize entry season again. I've spent rather an enjoyable morning going through the last 12 months of the SnowBlog to remember what it is we've been up to. My main conclusions: 1) Rob is very funny, and 2) we relatively rarely blog about Snowbooks news. I am quite pleased with the second of those conclusions, because if every post was directing you to a review or a bit of coverage, or going on about how great we are, I imagine you'd stop reading pretty soon.
So, a question: which sorts of snowblog posts do you like the best? The politics? The occasional links to Cute Overload? The publishing stuff? The business stuff? The (gulp) XSL stuff? I would be fascinated to know.

I think it's the mix that makes it enjoyable. If I was forced to be a bit more helpful, I'd probably (but only under duress, mind) say I was most interested in the insights into how the company functions and general musings on the industry, and least interested in the technical wotsits that I have no knowledge of. But again, it's the variety that keeps me interested.

I suppose the most interesting posts are insights into the book trade that make me think 'Aha! I can steal that idea!'...
Actually, I suppose the bookish ones are the most interesting, the business ones next, links to cartoons like the DRM one and although I really like Rob I have to confess that I tend to skip some of his political posts... Malcolm reads them though!
And although pics of cats don't do a lot for me, I am aware that I have pics of our dog on the blog sometimes so I am in no position to criticise. And pics of Rowan looking utterly adorable are always nice.

(1) reviews
(2) publishing
(3) business
(4) home news
(5) Rowan
very, very last - politics. Not because I'm not interested, but because I don't come to the Snowblog to hear Rob's views on politics (sorry, Rob, it's not that our views are dissimilar, it's just that i get enough politics at home.)

Poor cats. Into the bin with you.

As long as it's interesting...

I am happy with pretty well everything that arrives in this blog.
Are men allowed to be interested in the evolution of the pregnancy, and the resulting baby pictures?
I also like the posts about running the company, and I too sometimes skip the very political items
I loved a recent post or two that included the word "curtsey".

I do think that the variety of subjects is the best feature of the Snowblog.

The fact that it's a good mix, not just another publisher flogging their wares - though if there's got to be flogging, at least by indies who love what they're up to!

I agree with other comments that the variety is a good thing - I like the mixture of business and personal. You can't keep all the people happy all the time - all you can do is blog about what interests you and us readers can pick and choose what we'd like to read. Although more cats is always a good thing.

Hooray! The cats are allowed out of the bin.

I agree about the variety, but I also do not care for the cat pictures. Pictures of cats can be got anywhere on the net; you folks have so much more to offer.

A temporary reprieve. Binwards for you, missus cat.

Just so long has you both keep it eclectic.

I'm definitely in favour of the cats.

I am also in favour of the cats.

Hi, you cats! Get out of that bin!
