I have internets!

Hello, hello! I have a connection again! Hello! I NEVER want to go through that again. Over 48 hours of complete enforced separation from my beautiful internets. It's Tuesday night, and since Sunday I have not:

- read any email
- read the paper
- blogged
- read blogs
- been able to amend my online to do list
- printed anything (I couldn't download the drivers to set up the printer)
- looked stuff up

Think of the knowledge I won't have because of this awful hiatus. Thank heavens for Zen internet and their mighty ADSL service who got me online despite the best efforts of BT to balls things up (who I had to pay an extra £100 for the pleasure of bypassing their cock-up). Despite existing in the awful void I have, however, got frighteningly up to date with all my paperwork, which was about the only task I could do offline.

I had 350 emails, but only 50 of those are important. So I'll be tackling them and their associated tasks first thing! Thanks for your patience, if you've been waiting for me! And thanks to Rob for coming over to my new house and setting up the server, ADSL filter (jacked into the master socket to eke a few more mbps out) and wireless network in record time. Clever, kind Rob.

Oh, and by the way? Even though the exchange is 5 miles away, this connection is about the fastest I've ever had.

Lots of pictures of new house and tales of moving will follow. Summary: it's all done, everything's unpacked, the artichokes and rhubarb are ready for picking and I'm in heaven. Gorgeous, silent countryside; fast internets; 3 minutes from the motorway; 13 minutes from the train station then a 55 minute journey to Marylebone; baby baking nicely; happy cats; perfect husband; idyllic cottage; business going well (except for a stupid returns request which I'm just not going to think about until tomorrow) - life is pretty perfect for me at the moment.

Internet! I have internet! I'm going to do some gratuitous looking things up now. Because I Can.

Hurrah! Good to have you back.

Glad the move went well although I'm very jealous about the sound of your ready-made veg plot - it was so wet up here this spring and our soil is so heavy that our veggies have a lot of catching up to do.

Phew! Really missed your blog - so glad you are back on online - now I can keep track of all that it is going on in Snowworld again!
My veg plot is struggling too Vanessa..slugs..and the nematodes don't seem to be doing their stuff..so back to the organic pellets..my lettuce are going to be the most expensively produced produce this side of Snowkingdom!

Congrats! You probably know this already, but I was amazed to find it out: the leaves of rhubarb are POISONOUS. Be careful to only eat the stalks and wash well.

Welcome back, emma, glad everything in the garden is rosy. Know how you feel to be back online as had same expereince last year. Had to walk to the library to read my emails - felt like I was on another planet(nice library, though!)

Aha. You need to find yourself your own Pet Andy.

I have my own Pet Andy, which I share with my sister. We've known him for two decades, ever since he was a greengrocer. He now runs his own (very cheap) computer supply company, but he specialises in technical support for great big computer networks.

Whenever our computers refuse to play the game, he tells us how to get them back to full working order without spending a lot of money or losing any data. He does this for free because, well, we've known each other for so long it's like we're family. He's a laugh and a half, the kindest man in the world, we love him, and our computers work beautifully.

Don't know what's in it for him, but despite the nickname I adore him, and couldn't imagine life (or our computers) without him.

He does work for money, by the way, and if anyone's interested I can pass his contact details on. So long as you realise that unless you're me or my sister, you'll have to pay just a little bit for his help.
