The Snowblog

Due to popular demand

posted by Emma on 02 Jun 2008

Here is a bear I knitted for my little, unborn as yet, baby. His name is Bear (the bear, not the baby). This is the first thing I have knitted since I was a child, so I'm quite pleased that it has come out roughly bear-shaped.

Coming soon: a small cardigan. With tiny mini pockets.

Gorgeous! Will you knit me one?

I think my mum wants one first, S! Plus it took bloody ages.

Very sweet. Is the cardigan for Rowan or the teddy?
How about having a post showing the knitting feats of all Snowblog readers. I could send a photo of the fair-isle jumper I made...

Em, I am an idiot. Your bear is very cute, but the first thing I thought was "Rowan Yarns commissioned her to knit that? It looks so much more homey and sweet than their usual designs..." and then I remembered that your soon-to-be-delivered child is named Rowan.

For those of you who don't know, Rowan Yarns is a UK yarn company that usually has very posh and in my opinion unaccessible designs in their catalogues.

Dur.

Hee! I think that the exquisitely posh, well turned out ladies at Rowan Yarns would very politely let me know that my bear wasn't quite up to scratch.

Our alternative name for Rowan was Aran, so his cardigan I'm knitting for him is made from Rowan Aran cashmere, although it's a Debbie Bliss pattern which recommends (who'd have thought) Debbie Bliss yarn. The bear is also Debbie Bliss (from the Simply Baby book, like the cardigan) except with a shorter torso, arms and legs because I went slightly wrong, then decided a shorter bear was just the thing.

Sue - I love that idea! Send in your pics and I'll post them up.

I want one too. But I also want you to call t'baby Bear. Bear is a grrrreat name.

(Oh, apropos another blog post -- the latest Dr Who was indeed, by far, the best ever!)

That bear is extremely cute! Lovely neat stitching. And natty scarf. He'll be well-loved!

I've got back into knitting too (blush) with becoming a mum. And sewing, too. Is like rediscovering my own childhood!
