Snowbooks

Not our name (yet)

For that is our company's name. Not Snow Books. Not SnowBooks. Not Snow. Not Snow Publishing. Not Snow Press. And my name is Emma Barnes, not Mrs Snow (although it would be cool if it was).

It sounds daft to say it but people get it wrong so often that I thought I'd make it crystal clear. And here is how you pronounce it. Here is how you do NOT pronounce it.

Apart from making me bemused, because I thought it was quite straightforward, misspelling makes it hard to track our press and blog coverage. 'Snowbooks' is a good, unique term to search for. 'Snow Books' brings up all sorts of stuff about people in cold climes having to stay indoors to read because it's too cold outside - less relevant to the smooth running of our business.

Do sympathise - the thing that annoys me most is when people ring up and ask for Feedra Books, Faydra Books and every possible pronunciation apart the correct, straightforward Fidra (short 'i'). Especially locals who should know just fine that it's a ruddy great island in the Firth of Forth! No-one's ever asked for Mrs Fidra though...

I've had letters addressed to "Mr Consulting", which I rather enjoyed

You sound so authoritative (and also slightly scary) when you pronounce it correctly, Ms Barnes, that I am sure no-one who listens in will ever get it wrong again. They wouldn't dare!

When you answer the telephone -- "Snowbooks here..." do you ever get people saying "Aren't there? "

Sorry...couldn't resist that one.

Sally - I'm pleased to see I inspire dread and fear in people. [in Mr Burns' voice] Excellent.

Rachel - the compere who gave us the award made that joke the other day too - and I've been waiting for someone to say it for years! I think it's funny.

Actually, I did wonder at one time if that was why you'd chosen the name - a nice bit of post-modern irony.

just came across your site, interesting name, wondered if we influenced you at all, certainly not the same industry but began in 2001 as Songofsnow Books Art & Photo

If not, nice choice! Our influence came from how snow falls in Santa Fe, NM, like a giant snow globe that kisses the ground and sets the high desert greens and reds alive.
