Seth Godin

I read Seth Godin's blog, and I have to say it puts the fear of god in me. He always recommends the exact opposite of what I'm doing. Today's advice, regarding blogs:
"Strangers want to read about their lives, not yours."
Oops. Minus one point, again.

Emma,
I think you (snowbooks) are the type of "purple cow" company that Seth has in mind when he talks about being remarkable!
I think you can rest easy on the fear of Seth Godin front. And in any case he is only one man!

Well I'm not sure the evidence bears this out - at least as far as books are concerned. I don't think there are too many adolescent, boarding school, wizards in the world - and yet many people seem to want to read about one. Even in non-fiction the current popularity of misery memiors (and celeb books) suggests people want to get away from their own boring lives.

Well I want to read about you, Em - and my book, of course, but that's not me. Possibly a distinction not understood by SG.
And I want to know if Rob has any purple cows yet. (Rob, you can get purple chickens and they lay blue and green eggs - honestly).
